I received this e-mail from BC this morning.
I won't tell you my thoughts on it, only ask you to respond.
Dear NU student:
On behalf of the 2006 Nebraska football team, I would like to invite you to
come to Memorial Stadium this Sunday August 20 to watch us practice. Gate 24
will be open at 4:15 p.m. and you can get in for free by showing your student
ID card. We also will have an added bonus for you. As you are walking in, we
will have the new screens up and running. The new screens have been on while
we've been practicing and believe me, you don't want to miss an opportunity to
see them. As you walk in, grab a Pepsi product and sit down and enjoy an
inside look at the 2006 Huskers. After practice concludes, the newly elected
captains and I will come over and talk to you and practice our school song,
which we sing after every victory.
After singing the school song, you will get to be a part of something really
special to us. You will be able to run out of the tunnel and onto the field to
the tunnel walk music. Following the tunnel walk, you can exit the stadium and
head on over to Big Red Welcome.
The entire team is looking forward to the upcoming year and we want you all to
know that the energy you bring every football Saturday is an integral part of
our success. The players are focused and are getting after it in practice. We
can't wait to come out and play for you in a couple of weeks. I hope to see
you on Sunday.
Go Big Red!

I love it. Wish I could be there. I mean really, how cool is that?? The only other program that does something remotely close is Baylor and for christ's sake it's Baylor.

I agree. I would go there if I was still a student. The whole running out of the tunnel with the tunnel walk music seems to be a bit childish, but having never done it, I'd probably do it.
I'm with TC on this one. But instead of childish, I call it gimmicky...and I hate gimmicks.
Gimmicky? What are we running here the spread offense? This is anything but gimmicky, call it cheesy maybe but not gimmicky? Hey at the VERY least you have to admit doing this for the fans and especially the students doesn't happen very often, in fact rarely at any major university. Whether it's cheesy or not, it's for the fans and that's what I like. What you guys don't like the U returning the favor for the fans? I don't understand where you guys are coming from. In retrospect I think it's moronic to be even remotely icy to something that is suppose to be for the fans put on by the football team. I've decided you two should pull your head out of your asses because we are only 2 weeks away of the '06 tunnel walk, and I know both of you will scream like little girls when the husker hoards come running out. Too good my ass, we've all been there throwing corn on the field. Ok enough rambling, point is you guys are off your rockers to not be somewhat excited about what they are trying to do.

I have to agree with Graham for the most part. Cheesy was the first word to come to my mind as well. I would really like to stand up for you other guys because I know you aren't really trying to shoot NU's efforts down, but you did use the words "childish" and "hate." I've been thinking: What is wrong with them doing something cheesy? What could be an alterior motive behind this? The students are going to be behind the team with or without these events. The students aren't the ones who put AD's and head coaches in the hot seat.
I'm really interested in who is behind all of the new activities to get the students involved in the BC era. Is Peterson ghostwriting these BC e-mails? I'm not sure, but I'm really liking the feel of things around campus. Sure you can say that that is exactly what they want us to feel, but is it bad that everyone here is overly optimistic? What's new? Isn't that what being a fan is all about?
You'd be very hard pressed to find a negative vibe here in Lincoln. That is more than a lot of other programs can say. Let's all stop being apprehensive about things and just get excited about what's going on here, and about how the program is trying to get the fans involved. Peterson and Callahan could have very easily put up a wall as newcomers, but they really haven't.
As a side note, there are free tours of the new facilities next week for the public.
Whoa, whoa, whoa...first of all, I think the invite-the-students-to-practice idea is a good idea, and as I said, I'd be there if I could. I was only saying that the run-out-of-the-tunnel-to-the-tunnel-music idea seemed initially as a bit childish, but I also admitted that I would still do it.
Man....You guys are all retards. Do you all hate me now for saying that? Maybe it is a bit cheesy to say that you are retards, or maybe even gimmicky. I am not really sure. Maybe it is moronic. Hmmmmmmmm. Either way I cant wait to see you all in two weeks, even though you are a bunch of gimmicky bastards.
I-agree-with-everything-that-Luke-said. See-you-guys-in-2-weeks. I-cant-wait.
