Shocked
That's really the only thing I have to say in reaction to Harrison Beck's decision to leave the program. This came completely out of left field. Who could have known? Things must have quickly turned south for a true sophomore to make the life changing decision to leave the program after only 2 days of fall practice. Assuming that things were generally headed in the right direction after his freshman year, what could have possibly transpired through 2 days of fall practice to veer this thing so terribly off course? Sure, fourth on the depth chart is not where anyone wants to be, but is that enough of a reason to pack up and leave? Certainly he would not have headed into the season as the fourth quarterback. I'm not going to rip Beck without hearing the full story, and I have to say that something just doesn't sound right with all of this.
As far as the program goes, this is not a good reputation for NU to be building, now with the 3 most recent 'star' QB recruits leaving Lincoln without even having reached their junior seasons. This makes the Josh Freeman de-committment hurt that much more. We are now in a very precarious spot with regards to the quarterback position.
The good thing is that Harrison Beck was probably not going to see a lot of playing time this year, without an injury to Zach Taylor, which begs the question: how f'ed are we if Z-Tay goes down? Joe Ganz is Joe Ganz. He's no Beck.
The other good thing is that we couldn't have had a worse first week of fall practice, having lost Zach Bowman for the year to an ACL tear and Beck from the program. Things have to get better. Right?
My enthusiasm regarding both the 2006 season and the general direction of this program is in freefall.
As my good friend C-Mustard would say:

I would agree stiggidy. I don't know what is going on, and again he leaves like this?? Strange, but in this new environment of primadonnas who knows. I say good riddens, if he doesn't want to be here(even if he is ubertalented) then we don't want him here. Wish him the best and may his white shroud wearing, cross burning, trailer trash mom burn in hell for her christian sins.

My sources are now telling me that he didn't originally want to leave, but didn't think a return was possible after his mom's comments got out. I call that a cop-out. My take on it is that if his mom was saying those things, those were Harrison's thoughts as well, possibly even comments that originated with Harrison. That is really disappointing. May NC State go on to take many 6th place finishes in the ACC...
By the way G, it looks like you are in mid-season form as far as working in religious slams. Before it goes to far I want to pre-emptively state that this is an inclusive site. I would hate to chase off anyone from the holy land, but they are probably too busy dodging ICBMs..or whatever firecrackers the Hezbollah is launching this week.
I wouldn't call it a cop-out. Even if those comments originated in Beck's mind, and even if he hinted some of those thoughts to his Mom, she has no right to repeat them publicly. But he was as good as gone when they showed up in the Nebraska papers. There's no way he could return. Those comments were too damaging. She basically said that Zac Taylor was trash and that Harrison should be starting. Freakin' rediculous.
