"U" getting desperate

Ok, the University of Minnesota's jones for current and former Nebraska head and assistant coaches has gone too far. Take for example the lead-in to yet another article in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune regarding the Golden Gophers head football coaching search:

"Minnesota officials continued their football coaching search by contacting North Dakota State about its head coach, Craig Bohl. School officials also are apparently set to interview two candidates today in Dallas."

I mean, it wasn't enough that Kevin Cosgrove, Frank Solich and Bo Pelini had been mentioned as candidates by either showing interest themselves or reportedly being targets by the U.

The mere fact that the University of Minnesota has even entertained the thought of Craig Bohl as a head coaching candidate, let alone contacted him, one of the worst defensive coordinators in D-IA football history, makes their entire search a joke.

The thought of a former Husker coach at the U makes it somewhat interesting to me, but that person should be Bo Pelini, if anyone.

For those zero of you out there continuing to read this blog, sorry for the superfluous posting regarding another D-I program's coaching search, but when names like Kevin Cosgrove, Frank Solich and now Craig Bohl start popping up, I'm going to give it at least a passing thought.

Pelini interested in Minnesota

Bo Pelini apparently has not been contacted by Minnesota yet, but said he would be interested.

I've always considered U of M my second favorite football team, but over the years its not been much more than a passive interest as they have pretty much sucked, but I would definitely pay more attention if Pelini was coaching them.

The time is probably right for Pelini to get a head coaching job. Syracuse passed over him for Greg Robinson (still trying to figure that one out) and Michigan State passed on him for the Cincinnati guy (D'Antoni?). He's been a heck of a DC ever since he got into the college game and has done a good job recruiting. Things sure could get more interesting around Minneapolis with a decent football program.

This adds to the list of names I've heard mentioned so far, those being Larry Coker, Frank Solich, Mike Tice, Marc Trestman and now Bo Pelini.

These coaching searches are kind of fun...

Kevin Steele to Alabama

Slimy Steele hopping from FSU to Bama to be Defensive Coordinator.

Is this a guy that could be a future Nebraska coach? His ties to NU are only from the 89-94 years, but they are saying that he was a possible successor to Bowden at FSU....
