Nebraska to start season ranked nos. 20/22
(I'm a big AP poll guy. Why should I concern myself with what football secretaries think? That is unless NU is ranked higher in the 'coaches' poll.)
So the AP poll came out today with Nebraska two notches higher than the Coaches Poll. This is the first time since 2002 that NU is ranked in the pre-season polls. Four years.
None of this means anything, of course, other than that even if NU goes undefeated it will not have a chance to play in the national title game. Not that we have to worry about that anyways.
Overall I am not surprised by anything in the polls, other than by the fact that Colorado received one 25th place vote in the coaches poll. Apparently Dan Hawkins is already working his magic. Big 12 North: Beware.
Lastly, I read my first and last Jason Whitlock article of the season: his AP ballot on espn.com's page 2. What are the qualifications to be an AP voter? Fatlock voted West Virginia #1, said the Big 12 stinks, called '05 Penn State a fluke and did not vote for Nebraska.
15 days 'til the opener.
